Rotary Bangalore Midtown, in partnership with Swabhimaan Trust, is implementing a continuous monthly nutrition initiative for pregnant and lactating mothers in the underprivileged community of Rajendranagara Slum, Bengaluru. The project has been conducted every month from RY July onwards and continues to be implemented on a regular basis, demonstrating Rotary Bangalore Midtown’s sustained commitment to improving maternal and infant health.
The initiative addresses the persistent issue of malnutrition among women in low-income communities, where limited access to nutritious food often leads to health complications during pregnancy and early motherhood. To bridge this gap, the program provides essential nutritious grocery kits—such as pulses, ragi, and ghee—at 50% of the market cost, ensuring affordability and accessibility.
An innovative collective purchasing model is followed, with bulk procurement directly from super stockists, significantly reducing costs. This approach minimizes dependency on donor funding while empowering beneficiaries with practical knowledge of pooled buying and economic self-reliance.
The project has received strong appreciation from the community, strengthening local participation, encouraging self-reliance, and creating a sustainable and replicable service model. Through this ongoing monthly initiative, Rotary Bangalore Midtown continues to support the health and well-being of mothers and newborns in underserved communities.
