India is home to millions who remain unaware or unable to access numerous government welfare schemes due to lack of information, illiteracy, social exclusion, and procedural hurdles. Despite the government launching hundreds of programs in health, education, social security, livelihood, and financial inclusion, a large section of the underprivileged, including daily wage workers, migrants, SC/ST groups, women-led households, and people with disabilities are either uninformed or excluded.
A baseline survey conducted revealed that over 70% of households in targeted slums and rural pockets were unaware of at least five schemes they were eligible for. Many lacked documentation, digital literacy, or support in completing applications. Bridging this gap was vital to ensure inclusivity, reduce poverty, and enhance dignity and self-reliance.
This project has significantly enhanced social equity by enabling informed access to entitlements among India’s most vulnerable. The use of local volunteers, tech-based tools, and multi-stakeholder partnerships proved crucial to the success of the initiative. The scalable model can now be employed by different Rotary clubs across the breadth of the country.
