Project Scoliosis is a Corrective Surgery for Underprivileged Children in association with Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Bengaluru.
Scoliosis, a condition characterized by abnormal curvature of the spine, commonly affects children during their growth spurts. If left untreated, it can lead to severe deformities, chronic pain, respiratory issues, and psychosocial stress. In India, the condition is often under diagnosed or left untreated due to lack of awareness and affordability of surgical interventions.
Children from economically marginalized families are particularly vulnerable, as the cost of corrective surgery ranging from Rs. 3 to 6 lakhs per patient places it out of reach. These children continue to suffer in silence, unable to attend school, play, or lead normal lives. Timely intervention through surgical correction can completely transform their future, restoring not only physical functionality but also dignity and confidence. Recognizing this urgent need, Rotary Bangalore Midtown initiated a collaborative project with Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, a reputed tertiary care facility in Bengaluru with a dedicated spine surgery unit and an excellent track record in paediatric scoliosis corrections.
The primary objective of the project was to:
