Congenital paediatric heart diseases remain a leading cause of infant and child mortality, particularly among underprivileged communities with limited access to advanced medical care. Recognising this critical need, Rotary Bangalore Midtown has remained steadfast in its commitment to providing life-saving cardiac care to children born with congenital heart defects.
In partnership with the Rotary Needy Heart Foundation and the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, our club has facilitated advanced paediatric cardiac surgeries for underprivileged children from Ethiopia, the Philippines, and other countries. Through the extraordinary generosity of Rtn. Bimal Desai, who sponsored the medical treatment, travel, accommodation, and post-operative care, these children were brought to India, underwent successful heart surgeries, and returned home with renewed hope and the opportunity to lead healthy lives. During Rotary Year 2025–26, children from Ethiopia and the Philippines were once again successfully treated at Jayadeva Hospital, continuing this remarkable mission of compassion beyond borders.
To date, 23 international paediatric heart surgeries have been successfully facilitated under this initiative, making Rotary Bangalore Midtown the only Rotary club in India to undertake and sustain such a unique cross-border humanitarian healthcare programme. The significance of this project received national recognition when Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi highlighted it during his Mann Ki Baat address, acknowledging it as an inspiring example of humanitarian service. This flagship initiative stands as a testament to Rotary Bangalore Midtown’s belief that compassion knows no borders and that every child deserves the gift of a healthy heart and a brighter future.
