Project Mamata is a compassionate initiative of Rotary Bangalore Midtown, launched in Rotary Year 2022–23 to support newborn babies and mothers from underprivileged backgrounds while simultaneously creating livelihood opportunities for women from marginalized communities. Women from urban slums were engaged in knitting and tailoring essential baby and maternity items, ensuring warmth, comfort, and dignity for newborns while empowering them with income, self-reliance, and confidence.

Implemented consistently under the guidance of Rtn. Nishu Ravikiran, the project has grown into a Rotary Bangalore Midtown signature initiative. On Friday, 16th January, at St. John’s Hospital, the project provided 500 baby sweater sets, 500 baby regular wear kits, 500 kangaroo warm pouches to support kangaroo mother care for premature infants, and 125 tote bags to help parents carry baby essentials with ease.

In addition to material support, a 65-inch LED television was donated to the hospital and is being used to continuously educate parents of premature babies on newborn handling, kangaroo mother care techniques, feeding, hygiene, infection prevention, and emergency preparedness.

Project Mamata reflects Rotary Bangalore Midtown’s belief that service is most impactful when it is compassionate, inclusive, and sustainable—nurturing newborn lives, empowering women, and building a stronger, more caring society, one child and one family at a time.
